Porsche Key Covers

Porsche shapes its keys like a miniature sports car, crest on the nose and buttons down the middle, but that outline exists in three versions. We call them Classic, Signature and Slimline (types A, B and C on our all-types products). The 997-generation 911 and the 987 Boxster and Cayman use the older Wedge key, a three-button remote head on a metal blade. Each cover fits one shape only, so match the key rather than the model.

Two products fit all three car-shaped keys; just pick the letter: the Alcantara cover and the suede case. The Painted Key Shell – Custom Color Edition is not a cover but a gloss-painted replacement for the key's outer panels, for types A and B.

Reading the shape of your key

Look at the tail end first: a metal key ring means Classic, a square loop means Signature. A narrow key with four buttons and the frunk button on top is the Slimline. A separate metal blade means Wedge.

Frunk buttons, painted sides and Entry & Drive

  • The Macan Electric's four buttons follow the layout of the car, frunk at the top and tailgate at the bottom. Porsche warns that drivers used to older keys may open the bonnet or tailgate by mistake. A compatible smartphone can also serve as the key.
  • The coloured sides of Classic and Signature keys are separate parts; Porsche's accessory shop sells painted replacement side panels for both.
  • With Porsche Entry & Drive the key stays in your pocket to unlock, lock and start, and on the 911 a hand held over the bumper below the crest opens the front lid. Porsche's 911 quick start guide says not to carry the key while hand-washing the car, as water spray can set off that sensor.
