Volvo Key Covers

To place a Volvo key, look at where its buttons are. Older models such as the S80, V70, XC70 and first-generation XC60 have them on the face of a rectangular remote: five, or six with the Personal Car Communicator. The second-generation XC90 and XC60, the XC40, S90 and V90 put them on the edges of the key, leaving the face to the iron mark. The EX30 and EX90 use key cards, the phone and a small key tag. All four keys are covered here, in Alcantara or hand-crafted leather.

PCC lamps, Red Key and Care Key, key cards

  • What the PCC lamps mean. Volvo's V70 manual explains that after you press the information button, green means the car is locked, yellow unlocked, and red that the alarm has gone off since locking. It works up to about 100 metres away; locking and unlocking reach about 20 metres.
  • Keys with a speed limit. The XC90 offered an optional Red Key that could cap top speed, set speed reminders and limit audio volume. Care Key, which Volvo later made standard, lets owners set a top speed for family or friends before lending the car.
  • Card, phone and tag. Volvo says the key card unlocks the car when tapped on the left side of the door handle and starts it when placed on the wireless charger. Its key tag uses Ultra Wideband, unlocking as you approach and locking as you walk away.
