Peugeot Key Covers
Every Peugeot key in this collection has three buttons, so counting them won't tell you which cover you need. What does is the outline, and how the metal key comes out. Peugeot's handbook for the second-generation 208 shows the split: cars without Keyless Entry and Starting get a folding key with a button-released blade, while cars with it get an electronic key that keeps a small built-in key tucked inside. The folding key also exists in two outlines, the rounded original and a newer angular one. We make a hand-stitched Alcantara cover for each of the three, sold separately or together on one All Types page.
Match your key to the cover
| Peugeot key | What sets it apart | On the All Types page |
|---|---|---|
| Flip Key 3-Button | Rounded body; press the release button and the metal blade swings out | Key type B |
| Angular Flip Key 3-Button | Blockier body with cut corners; the same fold-out blade | Key type A |
| Smart Key 3-Button | No fold-out blade; lock, unlock and boot buttons; a small key slides out only when you pull and hold the release | Key type C |
The release-button test
Press the button on the side of your key. If a blade flicks out, you have a folding key: soft, rounded edges mean the Flip Key, flat faces and clipped corners mean the Angular Flip Key. Both of those covers have a cut-out at the top corner, so the blade still opens with the cover on. If nothing flicks out and the metal key only comes free when you pull and hold the button, which is how Peugeot describes ejecting the built-in key, it's the Keyless Entry and Starting key and you need the Smart Key cover.
When the smart key isn't recognised
- Peugeot's handbook for the second-generation 3008 and 5008 says to start the engine by holding the electronic key against the back-up reader on the steering column.
- The built-in key opens the door lock by hand. Once you've ejected it, the 208 handbook advises keeping it on you so the back-up procedures stay possible. The key runs on a CR2032 battery.
- On the 3008 and 5008, with the key in your pocket, you unlock by passing your hand behind a front door handle and lock by pressing the handle at its markings. Unlock without opening a door or the boot, and the car locks itself again after about 30 seconds.
