Jeep Key Covers
On a Wrangler or Gladiator, the key with the fold-out blade is more than a plain remote: the same switchblade fob can act as the proximity key for Keyless Enter 'n Go, so it stays in your pocket while you press the start button. Four of the five covers here are for Jeep flip keys, sorted by how many buttons yours has. The fifth is for the five-button smart key of the Grand Cherokee, which has no fold-out blade and keeps its emergency key inside the fob. All five are hand-stitched Alcantara.
Find your fob by its buttons
| Cover | Buttons on the key | What sets it apart |
|---|---|---|
| Rugged Flip Key 2-Button | Lock, unlock | Fold-out blade and only two buttons |
| Rugged Panic Flip Key | Lock, unlock, panic | A third button for the panic alarm; round blade-release button |
| Remote Start Flip Key 4-Button | Lock, unlock, remote start, panic | Four buttons with a round blade-release button |
| Geometric Remote Start Flip Key | Lock, unlock, remote start, panic | Same four buttons, but the release button sits in a shaped, non-round cut-out |
| Vertical 5-Button Smart Key | Lock, unlock, liftgate, remote start, panic | No fold-out blade, chrome trim; Grand Cherokee |
Checking your key
Look at the top end of the key first. If a metal blade springs out when you press a release button, it is a flip key: count the buttons on its face and take the matching row. The two four-button covers carry identical buttons, so compare the body and the release button with the product photos. A taller fob with five buttons, one of them for the liftgate, and no blade to flip out is the Vertical 5-Button Smart Key.
From the Wrangler owner's manual
- Remote start needs two presses of the button within five seconds. The engine then runs for a 15-minute cycle, and the fob can do this twice in a row before the ignition has to be switched to ON/RUN.
- Jeep asks you to press the mechanical key release button only with the fob facing away from your body.
- The fob may not be detected when it sits next to a phone, laptop or other electronic device. If keyless start refuses, move the key away from your phone before you blame the battery.
