Mitsubishi Key Covers

Mitsubishi calls its smart key the keyless operation key. Carry it, say Mitsubishi New Zealand's quick guides, and you can lock and unlock the doors and start the engine without taking it out. The version our covers fit is an upright rectangle with a silver button face and a silver loop at its base, made with two or three buttons. Both covers are hand-stitched Alcantara in eleven colours; the button count picks the one you need.

Two buttons or three

Key Buttons What to look for
Vertical 2-Button Lock, unlock Nothing for the tailgate
Vertical 3-Button Lock, unlock, tailgate A third button, for the tailgate or boot

Both keys share one outline, so shape won't help. Each cover has the buttons laid out under the Alcantara for its own key, so a 2-button cover on a 3-button key would bury the tailgate button. Count, then choose.

The tailgate button and user profiles

  • On an Outlander with a power tailgate, the quick guide says to hold the tailgate button on the key for more than one second. The Eclipse Cross guide lists the key's remote tailgate button as one way to open and close its tailgate.
  • The Outlander guide also says user profiles can be linked to a key: switch the ignition on and the car recognises the driver and applies their settings.
